Dania Ramirez - Maya At Emmy Party, Stars In Heroes : Season 3 Premieres,Photos

Dania Ramírez (born November 8, 1979) is an actress from the Dominican Republic, most recently known for two roles on television: playing a recurring character during the last season of The Sopranos and for her current role on Heroes.

The third season of NBC's "Heroes" kicks off with a three-hour premiere Monday, and Dominican actress Dania Ramírez is set to prove that her character, Maya, is a hero too. After last season's critiques of a character that seemed to cry more than be heroic, Ramírez says that this season, Maya will represent and show her heroism. Newly introduced to the cast in the second season after a high-ratings first season, Ramírez felt Maya wasn't able to show all she was since half the season was cut due to the writers' strike.
The Latino community did support Ramírez's efforts as Maya, and last month, she walked away with an Imagen Award for her work on the show.

But for Ramírez, who has had roles in “The Sopranos” and “X-Men 3: The Last Stand,” playing Maya, whose supernatural skill is killing people when she cries, was still a rewarding experience.“I got a chance to play a very emotional, really heavy kind of character,” she says. “It was a great avenue for me as an actress to show the world what I can do.”And despite the negative feedback on blogs, message boards and fan sites, Maya is back on Monday’s three-hour season premiere.
